Yasmien May died on Wednesday 26th February 2003. She was having
a video night with the girls and nipped out for a cig when she collapsed.
Yasmien was 46 years old. She had a special quality which touched
everyone she met. Our lives are richer for having known her.
She was a fabulous dancer who held audiences enthralled yet who lacked
confidence in her own abilities.
I have tried to let everyone know but if I have forgotten to
contact someone, please accept my apologies. The
celebration of Yasmien's life was wonderful. Her partner, Tony, with
help from friends, put together a slide show - from babyhood to now.
It gave us all time to reflect on how much we will miss this fantastic
person. This dance was a big part of Yasmien's life and she had just
joined the Tarab Dance Company. The show in July will be dedicated to her.
Kay introduced Yasmien
to the dance & took her to a workshop with Maggie Caffrey. It was a
turning point for Yasmien.
" I felt as if I
was discovering my roots" she said.
Yasmien travels abroad a
lot with her partner but when in England is an essential part of the
Farida crew.
Yasmien's organisational
skills are phenomenal & her dancing isn't bad either!
Likes: good food, good
wine, music & dance
Dislikes: loosing touch
with friends
Star sign: Aries
2 years on and Yasmien is still
deeply missed. Here is a poem written by friend Val:
We won't wear silly hats and
dance in the rain,
Compare our wrinkles and the odd
varicous vein.
We won't still tell rude stories
and joke about men,
Compare notes and give them
marks out of 10,.
We won't have girly talks though
we are no longer 'girls',
Still wear Indian jewelery,
forget about pearls.
We won't be there for each other
when we're old and grey,
When time takes it's toll but we
still feel OK.
We won't grow old disgracefully
and dye our hair blue,
I can still do it but it's no
good without you.
