Yasmina has been
dancing professionally and living in Cairo for many years. She had a residency at the
Meridian Helliopolis for most of this time but was also greatly in
demand at weddings and parties. Egyptians particularly liked her soft
and fluid style. I was lucky to see her dance at a wedding where her
set was dynamic and entertaining. She has a grace and fluidity that
come across in everything she does.
Yasmina is also a
great teacher and very much in demand all over the world. She
visits the UK often, both to see her family and teach workshops,
including a regular stint at Ford
Castle Residential Weekend. She is also a well loved member of
the fabulous Farha Tour
Yasmina also entertains our group at her
home for an evening with Safaa and band playing (those of you who have
seen the Farha Tour, will be
familiar with Safaa and the band). Many people say this is the highlight
of their week. As Yasmina is now a mother she has taken a break
from regular dancing in Cairo . She is now concentrating on her
work as a journalist and writes a regular column for the Nada magazine, and has no plans
to take another permanent residency.
Yasmina knows most
people in the dance world and facilitates dance related activities for
the group. She also keeps an eye on who is new on the dance scene and
who is worth going to see.
