Madam Hekmat works with her assistant, Abeer.  She designs for top dancer, Lucy.  Lucy danced at her daughter, Tawheeda’s, wedding.  If you ask, she will show you the photos!  She also made all of Nadia Hamdi’s costumes when she was performing.  Madam Hekmat is extremely generous and kind, though she rarely smiles!  She invites my groups for lunch and feeds us masses of excellent home cooked Egyptian food.

Onto her designs… I particularly like her baladi dresses of which she has a large range.  She sometimes uses colour combinations you would not have thought possible …. Yet they work!  She also designs and makes a lot of tops for me which are very popular.

Madam Hekmat's prices are excellent.  If you want something a bit different at a good price, it is worth looking here.  You often have to sift through a lot of not so good stuff - but if you find that gem you are looking for, it is worth it!

Tawheeda is now back helping with the family business and brings her own brand of quiet classiness to the operation.
