Where East meets
West, a city on two continents.
I was unprepared for
the impact Istanbul had on me. I love it. It is a beautiful city set
on the shores of the Bosphorous and Golden Horn. Sitting having tea in
the Topkapi Palace, watching the waters of the Bosphorous twinkle in the
sunlight is just heavenly.
Much more
Westernised than Cairo yet it still retains an oriental feel. Islam
does not seem as predominant a part of life. The people are really
friendly and helpful - except the taxi drivers who take you round in
circles to run up the meter - so it helps to know where you are going.

This is a much more
relaxed week than the Cairo holiday. Lots of sightseeing, costume
shopping and some dance shows. Shopping for ordinary clothes is also
really cheap with some fabulous shops in the newer, Taksim area. |
