The Grand Hotel, 17, 26th July Street, Cairo.
Situated in the
heart of Downtown Cairo, it still retains it's art deco style. It is a
3 star hotel, the rooms are clean with good bathrooms. They all have
televisions but no fridges. It is not a hotel that deals with many
Western tourists so we are a bit of a novelty. The staff are friendly
and happy to help though service can take some time!
Breakfast is
continental, coffee or tea, bread rolls, jam and cheese. If you want
fresh juice or eggs, these are extra.
The hotel has no bar
but you can take your duty frees to your room and set up a bar there!
There is a shisha café in the courtyard where you can sit and have tea,
coffee or soft drinks. There are also clubs / hotels nearby that serve
alcohol.
There is a safety
deposit system at reception.
There are no
kettles, irons or hairdryers in the rooms so take your own if you need
these.
Groups have enjoyed
staying here - it gives them a feel for Cairo life. Most rooms have
balconies that you can sit out on and watch the bustling streets of
Cairo. We are a 10 minute walk from the Egyptian museum. There are
lots of shops all around the hotel, some particularly good shoe shops!
And you would be amazed at the underwear you can buy. One groups
luggage was delayed and they went out underwear shopping. No M&S cotton
knickers to be found! Flashing lights and feather decorations only!
I hope you will like
the hotel too.
