The whirling dervish
show put on by the ministry of culture. It is fabulous. My love is the
oriental solo dance yet I can watch this again and again, and I do.
The musicians each
show what they can do, a sort of jamming session then the Tannoura
appear. How do they do it. One guy spins for over 30 minutes! It is
just mesmerising. For people with an interest in the more
traditional music, this is a must.
I have known people
moved to tears by the whole experience. If you go to Cairo, you
should not miss this - it is spectacular. They keep changing the
performance area which can have an impact - sometimes in a main hall,
sometimes in a long narrow ante chamber, sometimes on an outside stage.
You have to get there early and hang around for an hour to ensure a good
seat.
