This adventure is
designed for anyone interested in Egyptian dance, music and culture.
Numbers are limited so book early if you want a place. I keep the
group to a maximum of around 12 people. This ensures that everyone
gets to do what they want to - be it costume shopping, sightseeing or
whatever.
Dancing
We see lots of
dancers, from seedy nightclubs to Dina
at her 5 star venue. Dancers include some or all of the following:
Dina,
Randa, Lucy,
Dandesh,
Asmahan,
Leila &
Soraya. If you want to know more about each one, click on
the name. We also see El Tannoura, the whirling Dervish show.
Most dance with live
music - the bands vary in size, the bigger the band, the higher the
status of the dancer. Seeing the different instruments being played and
hearing the variations on themes is of as much interest to musicians as
dancers.
It depends who is
dancing where and when as to who we see on your week in Cairo. If there
is someone you particularly want to see, let me know and we will try and
ensure it is included.
STOP PRESS
Leila - now has a little boy named Youssef. Congratulations to Leila and family.
Yasmina & Kazafy have been to the UK several times with the Farha Festival/Tour. Check out

Discovering Cairo
Dance
Class
Master teacher and
choreographer, Raqia Hassan is always my first choice if she is in
Cairo. Aida Noor is also a well known teacher.
Dandesh and
Randa have both taught at the Dance Festival in Cairo. I arrange one
class for the group. If you want private lessons as well, I can
facilitate this. If you want more classes than sightseeing, you may
want to consider the Rakassa adventure. If the Rakassa dates aren't suitable for you, we can try to arrange extra dance classes when possible.
Sightseeing
This holiday is
designed for those that want to 'see the sights' as well. Although as
one dancer said, 'I am sure the pyramids will be around a bit longer'.
She didn't put them high on her priority list. If they are high on
yours, there is an optional visit. Check out the links at the bottom of
this page.
Shopping
We visit costumiers,
Madam Hekmat and Hanan,
Eman &
Aida Nour. I also take
you to Mahmouds …. 3 floors of goodies to wade through. If you want to
visit other costumiers like Amira from Pharonics, I can arrange this
too.
Madam Abla recently passed
away - a great loss to dancers everywhere.
For some dancers,
buying costumes is the main purpose of their visit. Costumes cost at
least half as much to buy in Cairo as they do in the UK. Your visit can
end up saving you money!
If you want to buy
musical instruments, we can visit Mohamed Ali street to get really good
priced tablas, ouds and nai.
For non dance
related shopping, the Khan el Khalili has everything.
For shoe fetishists,
there are some fabulous shoe shops in Downtown Cairo just by the hotel!
Our hotel is in
Downtown Cairo, the heart of the hustle and bustle that dominates Cairo
life. For more information,
There are two
options for 'Discovering Cairo'
1/
Felaheen
the standard basic option - for those that may not want to 'do
everything'. Ideal if you have been before & want to do your own
thing part of the time but you can still join in any trips you want.
2/
Medeana
this includes most of the shows and activities. You pay in advance
and get a better deal! Not quite 'all inclusive', but almost.
Click on the links
to see what is included.
Dates
for 2009 - 6th - 13th April . Click on whichever option you require
Felaheen or Medeana and you will be taken through to a booking page.
Alternatively email faridadventures@mac.com and we will send you a brochure.
Remember you can book a
Farida Adventure for a group of 8 or more. This can be tailored to
your specifications. And on agreed dates. Call Kay or e-mail
to discuss. |
