All in all...
I
think your concept is brilliant. We get to expand our dance
horizons, meet lots of interesting people, learn more about the cultural
context of the dance - and, best of all, we have so much fun. Lots
of laughs and no prima donnas! And very different from the first
Rakassa trip I came on. I'll be back! (Anita - Norway
- Rakassa March 05)
Nothing could have been improved. A very big thank you indeed!
I have had an amazing adventure & have enjoyed every minute of it.
Sooo glad I came. I am already saving to come again. (Jude -
Rakassa - March 05)
Thank you so much for showing us such a good
time in Cairo. It surpassed all my expectations and I can't wait to do
it again! There were so many high spots it seems a shame to single one
out, but one of the things that made the holiday extra special was that
everyone got along so well in the group - and that includes you and
Angus of course! (Christine - Glasgow April 05)
I thought the price of the holiday was steep
before I went - but when you appreciate what was included, you realise
it was good value. It was great to be looked after and yet have
some freedom to explore. Using a local guide like Nibel made the
week very special. I am sure we saw things most tourists don't
experience. (Jay - Hexham - April 05)
Wow! What a wonderful holiday.
Everyone was so welcoming. So much to see and do. It was
difficult to cram everything in. Way exceeded my expectations.
I would thoroughly recommend the experience. (Sallie - Glasgow -
April 05)
This has been an unbelievable experience.
It is amazing that my batteries have been recharged even though they
were running on full power all week. I have been home 2 days and
am still on a high. Made lots of new friends - found that
collective brains are better than a single one when shopping in Cairo!
(Margaret - Discovering Cairo - Feb 05)
A truly
wonderful week. Definitely an 'experience' with a good variety to
please all dancers tastes. Liked having some free time to explore
on our own. A week with everything packed into it - everyone
interested in dance should do it!
(Sarah, Norfolk,
Discovering Cairo Oct 04)
Thank you for such a fabulous trip. Every day just got better &
better. You work very hard to get everything fitted in & I enjoyed
every single minute of it. I am already saving up to go again.
P.S. there was a flight delay going home - the pilot left his passport
at home and they wouldn't let him board the plane! Only in Egypt!
A super holiday with lots of excitement.
Excellent value for money and such a variety of things to do and see.
I will definitely come again.
(Marian, Norfolk. Discovering Cairo Oct 2004)
THANK-YOU! for the week! I can't describe the high I have been on... The
whole week was just fantastic and the late nights were well worth it!
Already priming hubby that I'd like to go again in a couple of years!!
(I'll work on him!)
(Karen, UK,
Discovering Cairo Oct 2004)
The contacts you have make it
possible to go to a wider range of shows, trips and costumiers than with
anyone else. Certainly more than if you were by yourself. It
was as tiring as an army assault course - but the feeling of
satisfaction at the end was great. I got home tired and happy.
(Glennis, Redcar.
Discovering Cairo Oct 04)
This has been an
amazing experience and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life. It
really is an adventure & thank you for making it possible and working so
hard to make everything fall into place. It has been lots of fun, good
humoured and never dull. I’d love to go again!
(Anita, Norway.
Rakassa 1203)
Loved every minute
of this holiday. Magic, I think is the word.
(Heather, UK.
Dancer Cairo
1002)
Many thanks for such
an exciting and interesting holiday. You gave us the opportunity to see
parts of the real Cairo as well as the tourist sights.
(Sue, UK. Dancers
Cairo 0202)
This was a fantastic
holiday which I would recommend to anyone with an interest in seeing the
real Cairo as well as anyone interested in dance.
(Sandra, UK.
Dancer Cairo
0202)
From the moment we
set off it was the most amazing experience made more interesting by Kay
and Angus. Everyone enjoyed the Sheherezad, camel riding and all the
other wonderful excursions. The highlight of the week for me was seeing
Dina at the Semi Ramis. I would recommend a Farida adventure to anyone
who enjoys great holidays, plenty of shopping and surviving on 4 hours
sleep per night.
(Carole, UK.
Dancers Cairo
0202)
I really had a
wonderful time & had so many different experiences – completely
different to other times I have visited Cairo.
I really enjoyed meeting so many professional dancers
& learning what goes on behind the scenes. It was also a great honour
having classes and dinner with legends like Raqia Hassan &
Nellie Fouad!
(Emily, UK. Dancers Cairo
1002)
I was so looking
forward to my first trip to Egypt
that I did not think my expectations could be met – but they were,
beyond my imagination. There was no point in the week where I wanted to
be somewhere else.
(Ann, Scotland.
Dancers Cairo
1002)
Everything was wonderful.
I loved the way everything was crammed in with not a minute to spare.
The hotel was great - it was so nice to stay in an Egyptian feeling
place. Thank you so much for enabling me to do one of the things I
wanted to achieve in my life. If I had gone by myself I would
never have found half the costumiers - or had the contacts you have that
make it run so smoothly. It has really helped me put the dance
into context. (Karen, UK. Dancers Cairo 0204)

About dance classes...
I enjoyed all of the
dance classes. They have given me lots of new ideas & inspiration.
Surprisingly, the big stars like Dina & Soraya are so funny and
down to earth. Loved Kazafy - a very good teacher.
Raqia was great as always & I loved Aida's choreography.
(Anita - Norway - Rakassa March 05)
Raqia Hassan -
has the ability to teach very complex combinations of things in a short
space of time. I loved it. (Rakassa trip - March 05)
I liked them all - but
especially enjoyed Soraya & Dina! They were wonderful &
inspirational. I learnt lots from both of them. (Jude -
Rakassa - March 05)
Kazafy - Very
generous with teaching technique and a lovely atmosphere in the class.
Kazafy was my top favourite - I love saidi. (Candi - Rakassa March
05)
Soraya - What a
fab class - and those shimmies -
Soraya's suggestion was that
we practice those shimmies at every possible opportunity, i.e. "Shimmy
in the Shower." (Pamela - Rakassa - December 04)
During Dina’s class
I experienced a mixture of ‘starstruck’ and ‘feeblement’ but she is a
good teacher. (Anita, Norway. Rakassa 1203) How many other people
have been taught in a small group by Dina? We got individual attention!
Raqia
is fantastic – the way she ‘gets into it’ and is so warm and friendly.
(Anita, Norway.
Rakassa 1203).
Aida (Nour) is
brilliant, so funky.
(Jane, UK. Rakassa
1203)
Dandash - Although she didn't
explain the moves well and the choreography changed each time, I still
got a lot out of it - the moves she taught us were unique to her.
(Emily, UK. Rakassa April 04)
Rhanda - she was sooo good -
worked us hard and was clear on technique. I really enjoyed this
class. (Heather, UK. Rakassa April 04)
Shalaby - Fantastic - such
fun! Didn't even notice there was no music for ages. What a
lovely man. (Mary, UK. Rakassa April 04)
Dina - Wow! As you
know, I am totally in awe & nearly pissed my pants!! Hero worship
aside it was great to have a go - even if I failed miserably for most of
the lesson! (Harriet, UK. Rakassa April 04)

On Sightseeing...
My highlight was the
mummy room in the museum - it was really creepy. Also Kardassa -
the galabaya village - well worth a visit. (Glennis, Redcar.
Discovering Cairo Oct 04)
Pyramids trip was
great. Really enjoyed the horse ride. Nibal is lovely, very helpful
and informative. Sorry we didn't get to see her again. It's also
really great to meet and spend time with a native Cairean and get her
perspective too.
(Ali, Scotland.
Rakassa 1203)
Nibal is wonderful.
Some pesky ‘guides’ around, but Nibal was good at keeping them away……
and giving us instructions on how to handle them.
(Anita, Norway.
Rakassa 1203)

Nights out...
We had a great time at Yasminas but you didn't
warn us that we would all be petrified to dance once we had seen the
eight year old star of the evening!! What a dancer. We all agreed
the party night seemed just the best experience of the dance as it
should be shared in someone's home. (Christine - Glasgow - April
05)
I
loved Camelia's show. She was so lively and really enjoyed herself
- didn't look as if it was just a job. Found her exciting and
entertaining to watch. I left wanting more. Soraya was a
close second.
(Glennis,
Redcar: Discovering Cairo Oct 04)
I really enjoyed the
Tannoura, Nile Maxim, Casablanca, Yasmina's
party. All are well worth doing. Tannoura is unmissable and Yasmina's party is a
real bonus! (Ali, Scotland. Rakassa 1203)
Just loved all of
the places we visited and dancers
we saw – including the ‘seedy night club’!
(Pat, UK. Discovering
Cairo 1002)
I enjoyed the night at the
Parisiana best. It was late and we were tired but Lucy's show was
excellent. I am so glad I didn't opt to go to bed - or I would
have missed it! (Emily, UK. Rakassa 0404)

On ‘sugaring’...
This is the Egyptian
equivalent of waxing & generally ALL body hair is removed!
The sugaring evening
should be obligatory on all trips.
(Emily, UK. Rakassa
1203)
I felt like a
plucked chicken – and haven’t found a poultry fancier to jump into bed
with since I got home!
(Claire, UK.
Rakassa 1203)

On the Grand Hotel...
Really good location. Staff attentive, excellent and friendly.
It was very noisy - but then that's Cairo for you! (remember those
earplugs girls)
(Sarah, Norwich. Discovering Cairo Oct 04))
Totally love the hotel.
It is so old fashioned and quaint. Staff are lovely, the rooms
spotless. It is a big plus it being central to almost everything.
(Glennis, Redcar.
Discovering Cairo Oct 04)
I loved being in a place
that felt so Egyptian. Much better than a more sanitised /
westernised version. (Karen, UK. Dancers Cairo 0204)
Clean, comfortable
beds but the pillows were hard.
Very clean and staff
charming but the combination of street noise (bring earplugs next
time!), horrendous pollution (not much you can do about that) and hard
pillows as a bit much for my aching bones!
