Egyptian style belly
dance is suitable for women of all shapes, sizes and ages. It is a good
form of exercise and great fun! It is particularly good for people with
lower back problems, anything that strengthening the pelvic floor muscles would
benefit and, as it is not a high impact exercise, it is suitable for people with
knee problems.
Kay is an experienced
teacher who has studied with the JWAAD school and was awarded her teaching
diploma in Arabic Dance in 1999. Kay has been teaching in the North East for
10
years and her classes are very popular. Kay believes in enthusing her students
with her love of the dance, music and culture. Kay has recently become
Head of JWAAD Teacher Training and is in the process of restructuring the
course.
Kay's classes tend to be based on
a choreography in different styles of Egyptian Belly dance: modern pop, folk,
oriental etc. As classes are open level so of mixed ability, Kay focuses on
basic technique at the beginning then goes on to more complex things in the
second half for the more experienced dancers. There is
now an improvers class on a Monday & Wednesday night and an intermediate level class on
Wednesday so you get the chance to develop your dance further.
If you have been dancing for
some time and want to be stretched, come to Kay's Intermediate class on a
Wednesday night. Not for the fainthearted.
Kay works in Cairo at various
festivals & takes groups to study with top dancers. When this happens, Kay
arranges for one of the teachers below or other top teachers in the area to take
her classes. This gives students the chance to develop their own style by
learning with a range of teachers. Kay sometimes hosts workshops with well
known dancers from Cairo & can occasionally persuade them to take one of her
classes to give her students an opportunity to learn with them.
Kay is also a fully qualified JWAAD teacher and member of the JTA
