Cairo Nights - 2005

A fabulous double DVD set - over 2.5 hours footage.  To order your copy, scroll to the bottom of this page.

Filmed at the Liverpool Olympia, Liverpool, UK.  March 2005

Including performances by:

Yasmina of Cairo - Oriental entrance, Ya Helwa Sabah, Eskanderani tableau & duet with Mohamed Khazafy to Abdul Halim Hafiz cocktail.  Yasmina is a British dancer renown for her smooth & fluid style.

Sayed Amar - whirling Dervish - can be seen regularly on the Nile Pharon, Cairo.

Dandesh - Min hob fik ys Gary & Taht el shibek, Samra y Samra, saiidi tableau with Mohamed Khazafy & Sayed Amar, baladi & sagat tableau & 'El Rakasaat' where Dandesh mimics famous dancers.    Dandesh is much sought after in the dance world.  She generally dances in the clubs on Harem.  When seen by Omar Sherif he declared her to be 'the only true oriental dancer in Egypt'.  Dandesh has a relaxed yet powerful style.

Aida Nour - we are delighted Aida agreed to dance in the UK.  Her warm, cheeky & earthy style captivate & mesmorise.  Now one of Cairo's top teachers, Aida is a legendary name from the 80's / 90's.

Live music from El Negoum band, led by singer Safaa Farid.  Based in Cairo, these guys work with professional dancers all the time.  A pleasure to have such a skilled band of musicians in the UK.

Review of Cairo Nights DVD by Cathy Selford (Vashti)

This is the best value DVD you will see this year.  At £19.99 (inc postage) for a double DVD it will make the perfect Christmas or birthday present for your favourite teacher or fellow dancer.

Yasmina, our very own 'English rose of Cairo' exudes elegance and class in her beautifully costumed Egyptian dances, and provides a tonal contrast from the wild and exciting Dandesh & Cairo legend, Aida Nour.  It is wonderful to see an Egyptian Ensemble live in performance, and to see such polished folkloric dances by the male soloists, Mohammed Khazafy & Sayed Amar.  If you have ever wondered how 'sagat' should sound, Sayed Tura is a virtuoso and also a great comic performer.

I shall treasure my copy and plan to show it to all my students to inspire them to dance their hearts out.   Cathy Selford.

Quotes from the audience who saw the show live:

'Kay, just to thank for bringing this fantastic show to Britain.
Fab, fab, fab!!
Dance, Music and SONGS fabulous!!'

'Just to say how very much I enjoyed last nights show in Liverpool. It was absolutely fantastic! There definitely has not been the like in this country.'

'I thought the Show was fantastic and  was absolutely delighted by it. I am sure Yasmina would want to know how well it was received, my students were stunned and excited by everything.  Could you tell Yasmina her own dancing/choreography was superb, and she looked gorgeous.  The band, folkloric dancers and Dandesh and Aida were brilliant.  Dandesh’s show was so enjoyable and watchable and of course Aida’s performance.

'It was probably the most amazing thing I have ever seen, better than I had even expected.   Yasmina was better than ever, the folk dancers brill and the whirling dervish, well what I can say out of this world.   I felt dizzy just watching him.  How amazing to have Aida & Dandesh as well.   fantastic - a truly fabulous experience!'

This DVD is rich in it's variation of styles, music & costuming.

It has been filmed from 3 camera angles.  One of the camera's has a technical problem and we have avoided using this as much as possible, however there are times when it was unavoidable.  We hope it does not spoil your enjoyment of the overall show.

This DVD has been recorded in European format and may not be suitable for all DVD players in the USA.  I have been advised that most newer players can now convert to European format.
